Although John plays all of the instruments for GODI, he tends to imagine himself as different musicians when playing different portions of the music. Gil Whipzen is one such 'channeled' musician who John interprets.
Although John has never taken any music lessons, Gil has studied classical music, piano and organ, and can keep up with the best of them.
Gil's strengths lie in being able to emulate the sound and feel of a real symphony orchestra, by recording one instrument at a time. Every flute, oboe, violin, etc. is played on a keyboard, but with the feeling that a real violinist might have towards the passage. This results in a very authentic orcestral sound.
But when it comes time to rock, Gil can handle the Hammond Organ like any rocker. He takes his love of the keyboard seriously, whether he is emulating an oboe solo, or rocking the Hammond.
